A Look Back at 2016

Rounding off a sleepy year on this blog of mine and I’m shaking it to life with a summary of images from the last 365 days. It has been an amazing year of celebrating and soaking up the joy of relationships.

Having transitioned out of the student life into a big-girl graphic design job in 2015, I wrapped up the year feeling exhausted. In between my new full-time gig and any shred of my summer plans, finding time to run my business was a stretch. My goal for 2016 was to step back from my normal load and focus on just a handful of weddings that I could really pour my energy into. So glad I did! I was blessed to work with some amazing individuals and couples who invited me into their beautiful memories. Here’s to the amazing couples who shared their weddings with me this year and to the ones I’m already counting down the days until I get to capture at the alter in 2017! Thank you.

These are some of the moments that made this year a hit — a few of them belong to my dear friend and wing lady, Vanessa.

Laura and Mahlon Engagement | Mt. Rainier

These two killed it. Not only did they choose a breathtaking location for their engagement photos but they were so fun to photograph and they even took me out to dinner on our way home. I love it when couples come to me with grand ideas. Their personalities shine when the place we photograph is special to them. Laura and her dad have climbed Mt. Ranier together and Mahlon is a part of a cycling team that races all over the NW so this lakeside loop in the foothills of Rainier was the perfect spot.

I’m looking forward to shooting them again for their wedding in March!

Vanessa and Eli: Georgetown Engagement | Seattle, WA

If you keep an eye my personal blogs you will recognize this beautiful young lady! Vanessa is a dear friend of mine and my best photo adventure companion! I could’t be more excited to be a part of her and Eli’s wedding celebration.

Although they never knew each other growing up, Vanessa and Eli were both born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado. Vanessa had attended Seattle Pacific University and been settled on the west coast for some time when Eli moved out here to pursue his career in welding. After a good go-around in Seattle Eli was considering moving back home but lucky for the both of them, a mutual friend from Fort Collins made the connection for them. I think it’s fair to say Vanessa was worth sticking around for!

With such amiable character, contagious joy, and wild creativity, these two could do anything. They are that dreamy artistic couple that every Satellite pair strives to be! I have had the privilege of working with Vanessa and can confidently say that she is an incredibly talented designer and photographer. I also have recently had the fascinating opportunity to photograph Eli at work behind the welding bench (a little side project in the making). Vanessa and I have a running joke that we will someday write a short novel about her called The Life of a Welder’s Wife. Believe me, it’s gonna be good.

Well until we find enough time to write and publish a short novel between our full-time jobs and photography gigs, I hope you enjoy their delightful engagement session.

Summer Travels

Let me just start by saying that this trip was incredibly enjoyable because of my dear friend and travel companion. Vanessa, it was a privilege to explore with you this summer. Your friendship is steady and worth a high price to me. I eagerly look forward to many more trips like this one in the future.

This trip started as a dreamy conversation between Vanessa and I early this spring

“V, what if we went to LA this summer?”

Well folks, we did! Our LA trip quickly gained the addition of a road trip Palm Springs when we looked into the ACE Hotel and Swim Club. There is really not much to dislike about the ACE in Palm Springs and it is truly a mystery how we ever said goodbye to that sunny desert town. We could have stayed forever. As we stated that we would be checking out of our room to the young man at the front desk, he casually responded, “Why would you do that?” See… a mystery.

I really can’t explain how smoothly our trip went – it was surprisingly relaxing for a long-weekend stretched thin. Even after exploring palm canyons, learning about the cicadas, making friends with shop owners, tromping around LA, and shopping the Melrose Flea Market, we were still ready for round two!

I guess another trip with this girl is in order! That is if her new fiancée approves! (Congratulations Vanessa and Eli!)

Until next time XOXO

Of course this entry would feel incomplete without a few of my iPhone snaps from the trip.

You can see more of them on my Instagram as well.
